THE OTTAWA ESTABLISHMENT … May 21st, 2014

Those three Senate scandals seem to have upset the apple cart,

Left a nasty smell in the air from a very loud Ottawa fart,

But most political appointees can still stay till they're seventy five,

And by then its not likely that you nor I will still be alive.

So our appointed Senate cannot be changed or abolished,

The Supreme Court ruled it cannot be rearranged or demolished,

So we're stuck in this same place forever or god knows how long,

Is it possible to change Trudeau's Charter or maybe feel strong?

Can't have compulsory voting though less than half of us vote,

Can't have medically assisted death as special-interest crowd gloat,

Can't have binding referendums because it might interfere,

And establishment types don't want change or something to fear.

Hey Justin: I've got a job for you that might get you to the top,

Rewrite your father's Charter-Canstitution that we all got,

With binding referendums and medically assisted death,

Get the Queen to sign it and you're in for life, you can bet.

Turn medically assisted death into provincial stuff,

You seem to be the only one left who has the guts oddly enough,

No need to get in controversy with the appointed High Court,

Shout this stuff loud and clear and you should have lots of support.

Medically assisted death is an issue they can't tolerate,

It should be a provincial stuff -- not federal -- and up for debate, 

This could be your train or road to the top so jump onboard,

If you pull this off; we, you and the rest of us, will all have scored.

Why do I get the creepy feeling that no one is paying attention?

And no one in Ottawa is allowed to feel any tension,

And medically assisted death cannot be a provincial cause,

It just can't happen and it never will happen, just because.

And our appointed Supreme Court like things the way they are,

And provincial medically assisted death might be going too far,

As they told Sue Rodriguez with Lou Gehrig's disease, years ago,

As she was facing a painful tormented death and very slow.

Something needs to change and hopefully sooner rather than later,

Because this is like treatment from an Ottawa dictator,

We need binding referendums to bring about some change,

But Constitutional stuff like this cannot be arranged.

In twenty seventy seven all us old guys will be dead,

We'll be mostly forgotten because we didn't do much; it is said,

But then, the younger guys now will be turning seventy seven,

That's where I am now and I don't think I'll ever get to heaven.

It's the dying that bothers me because some people die in pain,

We can't have medically assisted death and we can't even complain,

Because those who rule the roost told Sue Rodriguez she had to die,

They didn't have to give any reason or even say why.

We are numbers at the bottom of a Canadian pile,

In an issue that should be provincial for us to go in style,

Why is it so difficult to get this idea across?

Why do they look at medically assisted death as a loss?

If Canadians can't have death with dignity; we're in shit,

Can't control the way we might die in pain, one little bit,

And for some reason, the establishment think this is great,

No need for any legal changes and no need for debate.

We don't seem to know or we don't seem to care who runs these affairs,

The prime minister or the Supreme Court and who decides when or where?

They will not allow medical assisted death for reasons of their own,

We could suffer in death as we die in great pain and we groan.

We need to find someone who can write an improved Constitution,

But our establishment may feel that this is not the solution,

We need to add binding referendums for input in our affairs,

And medically assisted death to show the dying that we care.

There's a lot in life that I don't like and I feel should be changed,

Canadians should have medically assisted death rearranged,

It's a medical affair so should be provincial stuff,

And the High Court with Sue Rodriguez, did enough.

We need a new Constitution to rearrange these affairs,

To get death with dignity and an establishment that cares,

Most of the countries in Europe and five US states have it now,

There has to be a way for Canadians to get it somehow.

The Quebec judge that Harper picked for the High Court was not their type,

Didn't meet their odd qualifications so they didn't like,

And now they want to cause a fuss about the Prime Minister's allegations,

They claim that this could impugn entire legal situations.

It's obvious that we need a new Charter-Constitution,

When High Court judges and politicians are into confusion,

With binding referendums and compulsory voting for all,

Then add medically assisted death and lets have a ball.

But of course you won't because you may already have sold your soul,

And the media mogul journalists are doing a poll,

No more Constitutions because Trudeau's Charter was right, 

Is the prime minister the boss or not or am I not too bright?
