MEDICAL ASSISTANCE AND DEATH … JUNE 3RD, 2014

We need a politician with the guts to bring about some change,

Because in Ottawa, this is extremely difficult to arrange,

At one time the abortion issue caused a lot of fuss,

But now, medically assisted death cannot be discussed.

How can we continue to deny ourselves assistance with death?

Democracy out the window as we approach our last breath

Is it religions that are causing this and that's why it's hidden?

Is that the reason why these discussions are forbidden?

We are not allowed binding referendums on this painful cause,

While those with their hidden agendas secretly applause,

Though everyone of us will come face to face with death,

Some of us might need medical assistance on our last breath.

The environmentalists oppose a pipeline to the west coast,

Though it might help the Canadian economy the most,

They are excited about the dangers of climate change,

Therefore we should do something else and rearrange.

This is difficult to believe, that the economy should slow down,

And could cause the Ottawa elites to look like a bunch of clowns,

While we look on and have for years and wonder where this is going,

And it doesn't feel so great as we watch and read and just not knowing.

Are we helpless in this regard or is there something we can do?

Should we stop thinking and just continue to feel stupid and blue?

Who can make a decision here to help us on the way?

Or is it one way or the other, but which way will we pay?

Various religions, battles and wars have dominated our histories,

Even the Communists; though they are still a bit of a mystery.

All their organizations want to show us how and where to go,

They want our attention as well as a large donation of dough.

Thank god, if there is a god, that no religion is now supreme,

While these days we still read and listen to what media moguls scream,

And hope that peace reigns successfully for the rest of our lives,

Hope those exciting wars stay away and we are lucky to survive.

It's amazing though, how many people are in favour of a war,

Many media moguls keep their quick reasons in the top drawer,

Or if there is an ongoing war somewhere, they want us to go,

Though future dead guys on the highway of heroes; we still don't know.

No one is allowed to find a fault with Trudeau's Charter of Rights,

But I can but then again, I'm not too highly educated or too bright,

We don't have binding referendums or medically assisted death,

And we don't have compulsory voting or other changes yet.

Unfortunately we seem reluctant to make these very important moves,

Though a new Constitution could be great in order to improve,

Though the Ottawa establishment seems complacent the way things are,

They seem to think that changing things might be going too far.

I suggest if we write another Constitution, that this time, we get it right,

Add binding referendums and recall and few appointees in sight,

With medically assisted death for those dying or in such need,

But where do we get a strong politician who is allowed to lead?

Half the European countries have medically assisted death now,

On this continent, five US states also got it somehow,

But our Sue Rodriguez, dying with Lou Gehrig's disease was told,

Dying like that was not allowed to be medically controlled.

What kind of man would want a priest job where he can't have a wife?

As he listens to sinful ladies in confession boxes for the rest of his life?

There's something abnormal here which neither you nor I can understand,

You are not allowed to think much about this because it's banned.

Is this the reason why clergy abuse became so well-known?

And many pedophile priests were exposed and people groaned,

Has anything changed much or has it all gone away?

 Does anyone really know and are they allowed to say?

Hey Justin:  Like I already said, you should change your father's Charter,

Otherwise you will be like all the other Liberal Party martyrs,

Remember binding referendums and medically assisted death,

Get the Queen to sign it and you and your friends are all set.

Turn medically-assisted death into provincial stuff,

You are the only one, so go ahead and do it; it's not that rough,

All the other Ottawa elites want to delete this completely,

They look down from somewhere high up in Ottawa very discretely.

We also need a law where everyone should vote or get fined,

Shout this stuff out loud and show us where you are aligned,

Otherwise you and your friends might make another minority,

Do what I say and you will end up with a lot of authority.

The ruling elites in Ottawa want to stay where they are,

Whether elected or appointed though Ottawa  it is very far,

They don't want recall, binding referendums or compulsory elections,

There is no need for Canadians to be giving them directions.

Can't have medically assisted death for some unknown reason,

It's as though death with dignity might be a sin or treason,

Though half the countries in Europe have it now and five US states,

But these issues are not likely to come up here in debates.

A changed Charter or new Constitution is never mentioned,

Because this could cause change though it might ease tension,

Therefore nothing changes in Ottawa because it's not allowed,

Therefore as a Canadian, you might wonder why you are proud?
