Pages and computer screens full of political advice,

That most pompous politicians don’t consider really nice,

Because they feel that advice that rhymes, just can’t be that great,

They’d rather tax and spend and travel and have little debate.

Binding referendums could tell the politicians what to do,

Compelled them to revert to democracy and not misconstrue,

And death with dignity might help us at the end of our lives,

But appointed Supreme Court told Sue Rodriguez to go and die.

The changes that Canada needs should all be written down now,

Every procedure, law, bylaw and every sacred cow,

Like elected senators, governors and High Court judges,

Of course many of the displeased bureaucrats might carry grudges.

Appointed Senate, Governor General and Supreme Court,

All done quietly, secretly and without public support,

And the system can’t be changed and no questions suggested or asked

Because the system is set like cement or rock-hard plaster cast.

And these powerful political appointees want to stay,

They want no changes suggested so you better stay away,

This is considered politically correct and not a joke,

Everything can be hidden behind the media mogul smoke.

Just because none of these appointees were ever elected,

Nothing much needs to change and nothing can be expected,

No death with dignity or binding referendums allowed,

Appointees are entrenched, absolutely delighted and feel proud.

It seems to me that our appointed Supreme Court should be elected,

Much more democratic than those unknowns secretly selected,

Their abortion clinic decision caused baby killing machines,

What questions, what numbers, whose dead babies and what teens?

Dressed in their red Santa Clause suits getting lots of admiration,

Politically appointed aristocrats causing agitation,

Completely isolated from Canadians down on the ground,

Told Sue Rodriguez she had to die and not hang around.

You can’t even name one of them, what they are or where they hang out,

The group that said Canada could have abortion clinics throughout,

They will not allow death with dignity or assisted suicide,

In their own little dictatorship where only they can decide.

They switched to the correctional system years ago,

They thought the old penal system was too harsh and too low,

The politically correct crowd thought they had a better way,

Of soft bail and easy parole that criminals would not betray.

Repeat offenders thought the new correctional system was great,

They lived in it and it was softer and easier to manipulate,

Soft judges and social workers and criminals walked out the door,

Where complaining victims and pompous cops were considered a bore.

Correctional system criminal common ground did not work,

You can’t say that though or they might call you a right-wing dork,

Repeat offenders and terrorists have Trudeau’s Charter of Rights,

Appointed Supreme Court judges seem to revel in these delights.

Many of my old friends and companions are out golfing or dead,

Because of this, sometimes I’m concerned about what lies ahead,

Because Canadians can’t sit down and plan how they will die,

Can’t have doctor assisted suicide and I don’t know why.

Most of us came from a completely different and much poorer times,

When ballpoint pens were great and we didn’t have much more than a dime,

Very few of us knew the complicated keyboard way back then,

And near the end of our lives, many of us still write with a pen.

This subject is a graphic illustration of who runs the show,

It isn’t you or me and the politically correct all know,

Sue Rodriguez came down with Lou Gehrig’s disease and they said “No!”,

She couldn’t have suicide and her painful death would be slow.

How do we get recall of stupid incompetent politicians?

Those appointed to hidden committees and odd commissions,

Maybe then we might be allowed to improve our system of laws,

Or change appointed judges dressed up in red like Santa Clause.

No binding referendums and no judicial reviews,

No plebiscites, proportional representation and no excuse,

No death with dignity, set-date elections or questions asked,

Secretly selected High Court judges from the high governor caste.

High aristocrat bureaucrats behind every appointment,

Not allowed to show that there might be disappointment

We need a justice system compelled to send criminals to jail

Getting criminal panhandlers and drunks off the street with no bail

It seems to me that our appointed Supreme Court should be elected,

Much more democratic than those unknowns secretly selected,

We need some strong elected politician in the know,

Because I get the impression that bureaucrats run this show,

We need binding referendums to compel them what to do,

We need death with dignity for when we’re finished and all through.

But how can we get this badly needed constitutional change?

Politicians want to tax and spend and travel and not rearrange.

And no compulsory voting laws because folk might to start to think,

Politicians want to continue doing what they’re doing with a wink.

I realize of course, that these are heretical notions,

No politician in his right mind would take such motions,

So this poem gets thrown in the garbage immediately right away,

No need for a political discussion and no delay.
