My old alcoholic friends who didn’t get hangovers are all dead,
But I suffered from Monday to Wednesday with a pain in my head,
And the price of booze was extortionate which should have been a hint,
A man could go broke and sick and his eyes could loose their glint.
But the blackouts were the worst of all with memories all gone,
What caused the damage to my car between the evening and the dawn?
It scared me and therefore saved me because and I had to stop,
Drinking with my friends in every available drinking spot.
Some couldn’t break away from the tavern camaraderie,
Lost money friends and pride in their alcoholic snobbery,
Of course I don’t have all the answers and I never did,
I am not a religious preacher and never was, god forbid.
